My Favorite Day

For today’s Mindful Monday post, I would like to share with you a quote from the “Tao of Pooh.”

“What day is it?” asked Pooh.

“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.

“My favorite day,” said Pooh.

(from the Tao of Pooh, by Benjamin Hoff)

This quote reminds me of my children, most children really, who wake up each day with the anticipation and joy of a fresh day ahead.  Somewhere along the road to adulthood, we start to become weighed down by our responsibilities.  Tests, chores, jobs, bills, commutes.  We become busy.  As we awaken in the morning, the soft openness of our mind is contaminated by a rushing in of thoughts and tasks.  With the exception of special occasions and weekends, we lose the excitement of one more new day, and the potential of what that day might bring.  Even if it brings nothing, there is beauty in the gift of the ordinary day too, if we can feel it.

This quote reminds me that every day is truly a gift and a blessing, and we often need to gently remind ourselves of that.  That the day ahead means one more day with our families and friends, one more day to manifest compassion, one more day of finding and living our true calling.  One more day of breathing and being here in our lives as we know them.

Today, and in the week ahead, can you resist the mental march of to-do lists, and instead, find a sense of thankfulness for one more day?

Wishing you a peaceful Monday and week ahead.

With gratitude, Monisha
